Oh my goodness, if I had a dollar for every time your writing felt like you had been in my head… thank you, Tresta, for sharing in a way that gave me space to think about what I want to make time for and what needs to be cut. Also, I’m really sorry about the stomach flu. Here’s to coffee once you’re feeling better. And if I’m ever in your neck of the woods we’ll enjoy that coffee together. That happens to be one routine I have as well (with a splash of milk).
I'm so glad this gave you space, Jill. Here's to cutting out the useless things, but definitely not coffee ; ). I'd love to have a cup with you! Do you still have a child at GF?
This is such a helpful, practical reminder about creating habits. I’m struggling to form a steady writing habit—it always gets squeezed out. I have a wonderful morning reading routine, but it works best during the semester when I’m up early to see my husband off. As soon as the semester ends I have to fight for the time…. I need to plan for it.
So much of what is on my mind, too, as I sort through a myriad of “how can I get my life back on track” decisions and habits to commit to. And yes, 15 minutes of exercise…. well, I’d be happy if I met THAT goal! Keep going. Keep writing. Keep making us want to read more.
The line “I have more options for coffee than Solomon had for wives” is absolutely iconic.
Thanks--I'm glad someone appreciated that ; ) I live in the PNW and we literally have a coffee option on every corner.
That makes sense! I live in New England so we just have a Dunkin Donuts on every corner 🤣
I thought the same thing!!
I really like this idea of substitutions. It maintains something while offering flexibility.
Yes. It allows me to check my boxes, even if I’m short on time or energy ; )
So sorry for the tragic stomach bug the very night of this fabulous Sub stack post 🤍
Especially like it when you write about routines and habits!… and calendars🥰
You’re my kind of gal, Christy ; )

Unfortunately, no, but hopefully one day we can be in the same space at the same time!

things need to be cut away or cut open, sometimes.”
